ABOUT The Planet and People Coalition

A new way of housing and feeding ourselves is required. At The Planet and People Coalition, we believe everyone should live in an affordable home within their income and that a sustainable supply of food is essential for the growing population.

We have experts in crop production and livestock management ready and waiting to join this venture, ensuring our members will have on-hand advice in taking the project forward.

This is not a venture that will ensure a ‘fast buck’, but it is more of an enjoyable investment opportunity that will offer the fresh, healthy produce and a calm and peaceful rural environment in which to spend leisure time with family and loved ones. The natural habitat created by this scheme will offer sanctuary to many at-risk species, including the lapwing, the curlew and the nightingale. Beekeeping will also be encouraged, both for the production of honey and beeswax as well as crop pollination. We have an expert from Sussex University to guide us in creating a habitat for attracting butterflies and birds that need protection as well.

PROGRESS

During the initial years, there would not be a surplus payment as crops have to be grown, fruit trees have to mature, and livestock have to be bred and given the time to grow.

Rare breeds are another interesting venture being considered, as are maintaining and preserving stocks of some traditional breeds. The sheep breeding enterprise will involve cross breeding the Hebridean with the local Southdown ram, taking them to the hogget stage. The Hebridean is a very lean breed, while the meat from the Southdown has lost popularity due to its high fat content. To combine these two breeds would create an excellent product.

Herbal crops are another option being considered, and an amount of land could be utilised for timber production, including sweet chestnut and hard woods, as part of a long-term investment.

At this moment, we are looking at a property that has been an organic registered holding for a number of years. It has ponds and lakes and prospects for enlargement for water sports. There are buildings covering 25,000 feet with amazing views towards the South Downs with a good access road.

We are inviting you to apply for shares and we will contact potential registered investors once we have established enough interest in the venture.
